Membership FAQs

Q:  May I join/contribute to Virginia NOW if I live in another state?
A:  Absolutely! We attempt to provide universal feminist empowerment as well as local. Your membership ensures that we can continue to expand!

Q:  May I apply for Virginia NOW's positions even if I don't live in Virginia?
A:  Yes! All staff positions are open to anyone in the USA except the position of Treasurer.

Q:  If I joined Virginia NOW while living in VA but moved elsewhere shortly after, is my membership still active?
A:  Yes! Your membership benefits expire only when your membership itself expires. Relocation does not effect an existing membership.

What else makes Virginia NOW so special?

We maintain an online database of both statewide and nationwide women's and progressive's resources!  We are also working on several special projects for the public. The most recently visible of these is the Foremothers Oral History Project, which requires computer/camera equipment, gas money, and sometimes hotel stays for archival purposes.

We are also building a document and photograph archive of the history of Virginia NOW and its affiliated activist organizations. These projects are run through our 501(c)3. We also manage a Political Action Committee, a 501(c)4 that researches and endorses pro-women candidates for state and national office. Through these funds, we actively promote candidates and their events.

Additionally, through the 510(c)3, and as a central part of our mission, we directly lobby our commonwealth's General Assembly and Executive Branch to advocate for women and policies that benefit us and our families.

Annual dues do not cover the expenses of those activities. That's where donations come in, and we have several options for you to donate to Virginia NOW.  And we appreciate it!  :)
