Charlottesville NOW Officers

Charlotte Gibson: President

Charlotte became a women's rights advocate after growing up in a conservative Ohio family who believed a woman's place was in the home. In Virginia since 1991, she founded a non-profit for CFS/fibromyalgia and has served in many volunteer roles, including five years coaching creative problem solving teams for Albemarle High School.

Veronica Bromann: Vice-President
Veronica is originally from the Boston area and moved to Charlottesville in the fall of 2016. She became interested in local activism after the most recent presidential election and was encouraged even more after attending and witnessing the power of the Women's March on Washington. She is excited to get further involved with Charlottesville NOW and our community.

Maria Chavez: Secretary
Maria was born in Fairfax, raised in Arlington, and now lives in Charlottesville. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College with an undergraduate degree in Women's Studies and also holds a Master's in information technology. She has volunteered for political organizations and campaigns in the Shenandoah Valley and Central Virginia.

And the rest of the board of directors...
Some of these names you may already know! We are thankful to the returning board members who so generously continue to serve in the name of equality!

Rachel Beatrice
Rachel came to us as an intern last summer and has continued to be active in the Chapter since graduating cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University in Mass Communications. In college, she was a political reporter for Capital News Service, where she found her voice focusing on legislation concerning women's rights. Rachel is determined to see the Equal Rights Amendment (finally) pass within her lifetime.

Katherine "Kobby" Hoffman -
Previous President of Charlottesville NOW, Executive Director of BRAAF
Kobby, a member since 1983, is immediate past president and has served in every officer position. Kobby wants to see the Equal Rights Amendment or its equivalent passed at the national level, and looks forward to the day of equal rights for all. She started the Take Back the Night March, which continues today through the University of Virginia, where Kobby is currently employed as a grants administrator. Kobby is also a founder and the current treasurer of the Blue Ridge Abortion Assistance Fund.

Virginia Daughterty -
BRAAF Board Member, Charlottesville NOW
Virginia has served as Vice President and Secretary of NOW. She has been active in women’s rights for 50 years, and is a former mayor of Charlottesville. She owned and managed Papercraft Printing and Design Co. for 26 years. Also musical, she has played in two musical bands! Along with her volunteer work, Virginia has five grandchildren who help keep her retirement days busy.

Toby Zakin

BRAAF Board Member, Charlottesville NOW
Toby, a member since 1976, has served as Vice President, President and Treasurer. In addition to being on the NOW Board, Toby is the President of the Blue Ridge Abortion Assistance Fund, a non-profit she helped create. Through their Zakin Construction Company, she and her husband designed and built many custom homes in the area.

Tannis Fuller

Tannis, previously the Vice President of NOW, has been a feminist activist since she was born. On the play-ground she practiced consciousness raising, reminding her playmates that girls aren't chicks and that bitches are dogs. She also vigorously recruited people to crusade with her for the right of all to live as they choose.
